Charles D. Roos

Charles D. Roos is our founder and CEO. Charles has been awarded two patents for his developments in the coal industry, one for using x-ray separation to clean coal and the other for methods to concentrate rare earth ores in coal waste. With Gerry Luttrell and Michael Kiser he published two papers, “Dry Coal Sorting: Next Generation Technology for Coal Preparation” and “Improving Coal Quality for Power Production Using Electronic Sorting Technology”. Prior to founding MST, Charles secured funding for a smart grid startup and successfully monetized a keystone patent for the smart grid industry. Prior to that, he was hired by a startup to design a set of Web 2.0 software services for the hedge fund industry and was promoted to CEO after just two months. Charles graduated from Duke University with a major in economics and concentrations in computer science, math, and physics. He has over ten years experience in the coal industry.

Ed Sommer, PhD

Ed is our CTO. Ed has designed and build x-ray separation systems for more than twenty years. Ed was previously the CEO of National Recovery Technologies, Inc., the world technology leader in x-ray separation.

David Doherty

Dave Doherty is our CFO. He was previously a Vice President at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance.

Joe Wingler

Joe Wingler is our Sales Director. Joe was previously a Sales Representative for Walker Equipment. Joe has sold mining equipment in West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and Alabama for thirty years.

Steve Jumper

Steve "Jumper" Jumper is our Service Engineer. Jumper is a third generation mining electrician. He's not sure if his grandfather changed his family name to match his profession, or chose his profession to match his family name. Either way, Jumper knows his job cold.
